NAD+ is a coenzyme rather than a peptide, present in every living cell. It moves electrons between the redox reactions of glycolysis, the citric-acid cycle and the mitochondrial respiratory chain, and it is used up as a substrate by sirtuins and by PARP DNA-repair enzymes.
